What is 3v3 Football?

3v3 Football is the exciting new small-sided football format designed to transform how young players learn and enjoy the game. With fewer players and more touches, every child is involved.

As part of the Junior Premier League’s 3v3 youth football programme, delivered in partnership with GOALS, this format gives U7 players the perfect environment to express themselves freely while learning the foundations of teamwork and creativity.

Aligned with The FA’s Future Fit initiative, 3v3 football supports the national vision for player development; creating smarter, more skilful, and more confident young footballers through fun, inclusive, and fast-paced play.

Join us in shaping the future of the beautiful game one 3v3 match at a time.

Unlike traditional setups with cones and constant restarts, our 3v3 matches are played on custom air-pitches. That means the ball stays in play longer, the game flows better, and young players get more touches, more action, and more fun, all while developing faster. It’s small-sided football, reimagined for maximum playability.

This fast-paced, small-sided format is designed for U7s, aligned with the FA’s Future-Fit direction and built for skill, creativity, and development.

Key Benefits:

FA Future Fit is the cornerstone of modern player development in England, and it’s at the very heart of everything we do at the Junior Premier League. It goes beyond traditional, repetitive drills to a philosophy that nurtures technically gifted, intelligent, and well-rounded individuals. This framework, which is part of the wider England DNA, ensures that every player receives the best possible support to reach their full potential.

U7 Teams: Players must be a minimum of 6 years old to participate in U7 football.

Goals Venues

It’s GOALS’ mission to encourage as many people as possible to play the beautiful game.

GOALS are one of the UK’s largest and most popular operators of dedicated, small-sided football clubs. With over 400 pitches across 43 locations and state-of-the-art facilities, they ensure your experience is straight from the top drawer.

They’re constantly evolving, investing in their pitches with their trademarked ProTurf pitch surfaces.

3v3 FAQs

Smaller formats make players move more, in more technical ways. 11v11 will now be introduced at U14s so players get to play smaller formats for longer.

Building on the changes introduced in 2012, Future Fit aims to give young players greater opportunities, more variety of football, more responsibility and action to feed their potential.

The FA have released a Future Fit: Online Event which is open to anyone looking to find out more. All information can be found here.

A range of support is being developed to support the implementation of the changes and full detail on this will be shared with a year to go in September 2025.
