WMA BARNSLEY V ALVECHURCH
The final league match of the season saw WMA welcome Alvechurch to Garden Walk Stadium. A chilly and sunny morning welcomed both sides to the field.
WMA started off very strongly enjoying plenty of good possession of the ball in good areas in good attacking area's. They created opening's early on but were lacking the finishing touches as chances came and went.
After 14 minutes they did open the scoring when Oli's right sided cross found Josh B who fed the ball to Shevron who spun smartly to finish. 1-0 WMA. WMA were then unfortunate to loose Harrison who picked up a bad cut on his knee which sent him off to hospital (recovering well)
P1 - 1-0.
Into P2 and Alvechurch were able to find more of the ball. WMA were not playing as fluently and this allowed Alvechurch too play higher as WMA surrendered the ball to easily. Toby was forced into a fine one v one save before a cleared Alvechurch free kick resulted in a penalty being awarded on the clearance for an seemingly innocuous challenge. The penalty coverted sending the sides in 1-1 at the break.
P3 - A few honest words in relation to respecting the opposition and the levels of work rate displayed meant WMA came back out with much more desire and urgency to their play. Quickly they regained the lead whrn Josh B latched onto a neat through ball to blast the ball home after 43 minutes. 2-1, WMA were then awarded a penalty of their own when Dan was nudged in the back, in truth, this looked soft too. Shev converted to make it 3-1. Dan then got in on the act quickly grabbing a fourth with a sharp finish into the corner of the net. 4-1.
P4 - Into the final 20 minutes of WMA season, the players pushed on with Shev completing his hat trick, scoring his 30th league/cup goal of season after excellent work from Dan in the box provided him with a tap in. 5-1. WMA pushed on again with Alvechurch working hard to contain but tiring, Shev broke through to poke in his fourth, meaning beating his goal tally of last season by one, 6-1. Shev then turned provider when he hit a sharp drive which was spilled for Louis who was on the spot to finish smartly the rebound. 7-1.
Full credit to Alvechurch, who, with the last play of the game won a corner, a great delivery meant a bullet header was converted. 7-2
We wish Alvechurch well going forward, over the off season
Another JPL campaign comes to a close which has been hugely enjoyable for all concerned. The players have to be commended for the way they've played and conducted themselves all year. They have scored over 100 goals in all competitions, won many plaudits and are a pleasure to be involved with.
A rebrand over the off season means this group of players shall return to the JPL next year as Gornal Athletic Youth FC. Some have JPL rep team training and matches to look forward to over the Summer. Can't wait already!!
