Paulton Rovers vs Taunton Town
Paulton Rover's 15s hosted Taunton today, on a brisk morning at Somervale the hosts knew that the visiting team would come and be as robust as possible and would be difficult to break down, today would be about patience if Paulton were to get anything from the game.
the first quarter saw Paulton taking the game to Taunton and dominating possession as expected, the play was pretty to watch but not threatening as such, with also Taunton looking dangerous on the break. Paulton poked and prodded the defence towards the end of the first quarter going close from a great cross from Ben Smith who was wreaking havoc on the right hand side, unfortunately Harrison Newman couldn't connect. Shortly after Paulton managed to unlock the defence with a neat bit of combination play for Joe Paradise to confidently finish the move.
In the second Quarter the game opened up some what with Taunton playing more direct in possession and physical in transition, there hard work defensively almost paid dividends when a high press unsettled the Paulton defence leading to a great chance Lucas sent the striker wide by dominating his area and managed to do enough to stop the ball from going in. Paulton Settled back in to the game and then 5 minutes later they had the ball in the back of the net after a nice combination leading to Harrison Newman with a neat side foot finish at the back post.
In the third quarter it was more of the same from both teams, Taunton pressing hard and making Paulton passing game break down, then Owen Naylor who had been instructed to shoot on site during the half time break struck from outside the area, the keeper managed to save the initial shot but the power of the shot saw it squirm through his legs into the net, having it been a dry day the ball may of stayed out of the goal.
in the final quarter Taunton went all out attack with nothing to lose and looked dangerous for the first 5 minutes getting lots of joy down the Paulton Left hand side, they got their reward after a mistake from Paulton attacking left the defence wide open some great individual play from the Taunton winger saw them get in behind who then played in the Striker who was strong on the ball and showed great composure to lash the ball home in the side netting. After a couple of changes from Paulton they looked solid again and began to move the ball well and getting shots away, soon they got a corner and after a great delivery Will Rawlings Leaped highest to power a header home, with 5 minutes to go Paulton were playing well all that high pressure was taken its toll, Paulton finished off the game with a flowing move from defence to attack with 3 players lining up to finish off the move Harrison got his second of the game again with a neat side foot finish.
Overall a great game to watch with two different styles being played Taunton came and gave it a real go and caused problems that Paulton had to solve.
