Match Report

Taunton Town U15 v Wells City

First Quarter

Knowing how difficult Wells were to compete against when we played them at home, we knew that this would be a tough match and needed to be into the game from the start. Starting with the now familiar 3-5-2, Spencer Herbison and Albert Hacker were set up as the strike force to solve the issue of a lack of goals.

They did not disappoint.  From the off, Taunton pressed a high line taking the ball into the Wells half as often as they could.  Paying dividends, this tactic enabled Spencer to open the scoring with a goal at the tenth minute.

Unfazed, Wells upped the pressure with play now firmly entrenched in the Taunton half. A great clearance off the line by Charlie Buckley a great run by Well's Nick Fowler down the right saw the defender beaten and Callum Hendy being force to recover. A knock from behind and Wells penalty, nicely dispatched by Nick on the 17th minute.

End of first quarter 1 -1.

Second Quarter

Again Taunton started high-tempo catching Wells off guard and Spencer slotting a goal into the Wells net the first minute of the second quarter. Taunton back on top. 2-1. Then followed a fantastic competition with end to end play. Several Wells shots resulting in a goal-line scramble saw Taunton defend well despite intense Wells pressure. Great play between Luke Margetts and Charlie White saw Charlie launch a rocket shot hitting the bar and deflecting up out of the reach of Spencer and Albert Hacker. Then four minutes before half time, Wells shot –Charlie Buckley saved. Two  minutes later Wells shot again, Charlie saved, launching a break which save a shot by Albert resulting in a great Wells save.

Half time 2 -1.

Third Quarter

The third quarter saw an unfortunate change of fortune for Taunton. Well’s mounting pressure began to pay off and a run down the right saw what was potentially a cross from a wide position by Kai Murrell lob over the top of the Taunton keeper and drop into the top left hand corner. 2-2. From the off Taunton were determined to get back into the game and a great strike by Ollie Wright forced a corner . Failing to capitalise, Wells then went on the break catching Taunton off-guard with Coby Hepper-Stroud being gifted a tap in by the Wells No 8 after having done all the hard work.

End of third quarter 2-3.

Fourth Quarter

Sensing blood Wells once again applied pressure. Undeterred Taunton defended well, however another goal by Coby Hepper-Stroud was making the chance of a Taunton comeback very slim. The killer blow came when Tom Harrison struck the ball, it hit the bar, then deflecting off the keeper found it’s way into the net. Taunton have not had their share of luck to date, and the goal-gremlin had got them again. Despite the score now being 2 – 5, the player spirit remaind high and the ball was launched back into the Wells half time and time again with Taunton attacks finally resulting with an Albert Hacker goal. A small reward for a great Taunton team effort. Well done lads, team performance goes from strength to strength, game on game.

Final Score Taunton 3 Wells City 5
