Match Report

1st Qtr

In what turned out to be a very even, competitive game it was clear from the start of the match that it would be close. Both teams worked hard in the first period, especially in the defensive third, not giving many chances away. Hereford managed to create one clear cut chance putting the forward through one on one with the Birmingham RTC keeper whose positioning was excellent to close down the space and then making a superb save with his feet to deny Hereford. While Birmingham RTC frustrated the visitors with a good defensive shape and then looking to counter quickly, this earned them a couple of half chances. End of first period 0-0.

2nd Qtr

The second period continued much like the first with Birmingham RTC holding a good shape and looking to counter. Further in the period Birmingham RTC managed to maintain some good possession to create a few chances which weren't converted. End of second period 0-0.

3rd Qtr

The third period was very similar to the first two in that it was very competitive with both teams looking to be positive in their play. Shortly into the 3rd period it was Hereford that manged to find Birmingham sleeping at a corner to take it short, this caused just enough confusion in the Birmingham RTC defence to allow one of the Hereford players to create a yard of space to score the first goal of the match. Birmingham RTC responded well and creating chances and forced a corner. From the resulting corner Hereford regained possession, while one of the Birmingham RTC centre backs was injured in the centre circle they exploited the gap left in the defence for the forward to finish superbly into the top corner. Although frustrated by the manner of the goal conceded Birmingham RTC began to put pressure on Hereford for the rest of the period but to no avail. End of third period 0-2.

4th Qtr

In the final period it was Birmingham RTC who looked to put pressure on Hereford to get back in the game. Birmingham was now the team that was dominating possession in the Hereford half, with Hereford looking to play on the counter attack. Over the period Birmingham RTC created a number of half chances that nearly came to fruition, but in the end it was the Hereford defence that stood firm to hold out. End of Game 0-2

Another highly competitive game for both team, with lots of learning and development gained for all of the players, played in the right spirit. Thank you to Hereford for the game and good luck to them for the rest of the season.
