MATCH REPORT

Saturday 3RDNovember 2018

North Somerset RTC V Taunton Town FC U16’s

Today’s visitors welcomed to Nailsea school for the 9:30 early KO was Taunton Town FC.

North Somerset hasn’t been playing their usual flowing football in recent weeks however had still managed to pick up wins when needed with a never give up attitude and plenty of hard work, so today wanted to start brightly and take the game to a Taunton side whose recent form has struggled to find a winning formula.

Into the first period and it wasn’t long before NS were 1 up following a corner awarded after Ruben Tredgold’s run towards goal was defended well initially, knocked out for a corner which went straight in following a delightful left footed cross which looped over everyone in the area into the goal – 1-0 (3mins).

Taunton was under some early pressure although did try and keep the ball and play from the back although NS was quick to close down and force mistakes.  And then on 8 mins NS were 2-0 up following another corner awarded, this time Taunton cleared their lines well only for the ball to fall nicely to Ruben 25 yards out and his half volley was struck sweetly with his left foot straight into the left-hand bottom corner of the goal, giving the keeper no chance.  The front line of NS working extremely hard in the first period and had other half chances early on - Danny Constable could have scored shortly afterwards with a clever header which went just wide following some great attacking football from NS.  Then on 15mins NS were 3-0 up from another set piece which Taunton found it hard to defend against all morning, Will Maskell’s corner again looped over the keeper which was knocked back across goal into the path of Ruben who really couldn’t miss 3-0 from close range.

The second period also started well for NS immediately putting Taunton under pressure at the back and causing problems down the right-hand side.  Nathan Storer (NS Right Back) found himself with loads of time and space throughout the match today to play Ruben in down the right wing which is where lots of chances came from.

Although it was Taunton which scored the next goal on 25 mins with really their first real chance at goal after NS switched off and didn’t close down the opportunity quick enough, some clever through play tho from the front players of Taunton presented the chance which the player kept his cool to slot home well giving Matty Gregory in goal no chance of saving.  3-1.  Then shortly afterwards Taunton Town were reduced to 10 players following a reaction from the Taunton player over a nothing free kick which left the referee no choice but to show him the card for foul and abusive language.  The rest of the period was played out in the middle third, Taunton would find it hard going to react following losing a player and NS although kept the ball well also lacked that killer finish they so nicely found early on.

Half Time 3-1

Into the third period and NS controlled the early exchanges, a bright start which saw NS win an early corner on 42 mins.  Will’s resulting corner from the left was headed in from 10 yards by Will Banks making it 4-1 to the home side.  For all his efforts and hard work early on Danny Constable was finally rewarded with a goal of his own on 53 mins following an initial low hard shot from Ruben which initially was saved well by the Taunton keeper only to fall nicely to Danny who struck well into the bottom corner of the goal.  NS were controlling the game well at this stage, defending nicely when needed to and caused lots of problems for Taunton at the back- although for long periods today Taunton defended extremely well including their Keeper who helped keep the score line down to single figures in the game early on. Then another silly moment on 57 mins after a NS defender challenged fairly for the ball from a Taunton break towards goal, which the Taunton attacker didn’t react well indeed to the challenge and started pushing the NS defender, the result was another sending off which again the match official had no choice, very silly and this spoilt what was a good game of football.

Into the last period and as you would expect Taunton Town put everyone behind the ball and tried to park the bus to keep the score down although NS was in no mood for favors and the last 20 minutes were played in the Taunton last third.

A goal from todays Gold award for NS Liam Noble on 70 mins following a nice run at goal from Nathan and a penalty scored by Alfie Maddern on 72 mins after his run at goal won the initial spot kick which he deservedly converted well.

Then on 75 mins another brilliant left footed cross from a corner went in off the back post off of a Taunton defender, the ball gave him no chance of defending. And another own goal shortly afterwards when a looping back pass to the keeper was mis-judged and the keeper (out of his box) couldn’t punch so tried to head away but unfortunately for him looped over his head into the goal 9-1.  And on 78 mins Nathan Storer finished well from close range to make it 10-1 to the home side, Taunton today did try and play some football in periods however gave themselves a very difficult morning with some silly sending offs which NS took advantage of and acted professional throughout.

We wish Taunton Town all the best for the rest of the season.
