South Gloucestershire RTC V South Somerset RTC
South Gloucestershire RTC welcomed South Somerset RTC to Yate Academy for this U16 league game.
The game was a physical one from the outset with both teams putting each other under pressure when they had possession of the ball. There was half chances for both sides in the opening exchanges which all narrowly missed. The first goal came 15 minutes in and was to South Somerset who scored it after some clever play seen them enter the box it looked like the South Gloucestershire numbers would be able to defend with purpose but a stray intoned challenge brought down the South Somerset winger. The South Somerset Number 12 stepped up and smashed the ball past the home keeper 0-1 to the visitors who edged the quarter overall.
The second quarter started much in the same vain however early on South Gloucestershire won a lot of the second balls which paided dividends in the 27th minute as Scott O’Brien charged through the away defence to be brought down right on the edge of the area. Scott stepped up and drove the ball low and hard underneath the jumping wall and into the bottom corner. Game was level at 1-1.
The 3 quarter seen some more fluid passing from both sides which created opportunities at both ends but both keepers were alert to the danger and made some fine stops the deny the opposition. The chance of the quarter came to Scott O’Brien who drive down the right hand side and fizzed a cross in low and hard which seen defenders and attackers battling to get there for the ball to be turned up over the top of the cross bar.
The 4th quarter was a very open quarter with both teams looking dangerous on the counter and after 12 minutes the away side produced a stunning move down the right for the ball to be played a cross and turned goal wards but for the home keepers reactions to dive across to his right hand side with a strong hand to keep the scores level. The home side won the ball and themselves counted with a flowing move from Scott O’Brien, Mitch Dann, Liam McCracken and Harvey Milton ending up with one of them crashing the ball against the woodwork for their follow up shot to be saved.
A great advert for JPL with both teams giving their all but the result was probably a fair one based on the chances created.
