Rushall Olympic welcomed Stoke RTC for this JPL Midland North League Fixture.
Just like the first game Rushall dominated play from start to finish and went in front through Harris, who sloted home after a fantastic move involving Cooksey, Harvey and Walker, shooting accross the stranded Stoke Keeper after 4 minutes to rifle one in to the bottom corner. Rushall should have extended their lead but for several smart saves from the Stoke keeper as the first quarter was one way traffic.
The second quarter followed the same pattern as Stoke struggled to retain possession. Watson gained posession following a defensive mix up and smashed a shot towards the top corner, only for a miracle save from the Stoke keeper. Davis however was on hand to head home as the ball cannoned off the crossbar into his path and the ball flew into the empty net. Harsh on the visitors keeper as he was keeping his side in the game with a fantastic performance in the visiting goal.
The third quarter followed a similar pattern only this time Rushall wasted several guilt edge opportunites to put the game to bed. They did add a third lare on after Hodgkiss' delightful cross was met by Cooksey who headed powerfully home at the far post to make it 3-0!
During the forth quarter, Stoke rallied and pulled a goal back from a wonderful free kick and then quickly added a second after a defensive lapse. The game now was in the balance due Rushall not being able to be clinical enough in front of goal. The home nerves were settled with 6 minutes to go when Irelands free kick came out the same top draw as the Stoke one, as he curled the ball around the wall into the corner of the net!
A game that shouldn't have been so close but football has a habit of kicking you in the teeth if you don't take your chances. Fair play to Stoke for making a game of it and believing in themselves and playing in the right way and we wish them all the best for the rest of the season. A special mention to Mr Sproson who refereed the game brilliantly.
