Late rally not enough at cold Vale of Evesham.
A cold morning in the vale of Evesham, and the temperature dropped further as the morning progressed and the cold wind picked up. A fast counter attcking Kettering gave Evesham something to think about in the first quarter, but Evesham played their way in, and closed out the first quarter wth two late goals to go into the first break 2-0 ahead.
The second quarter saw a midfield tussle, with Evesham trying to play on the front foot, and Ketterng continuing to use their pace to good effect. After 8 minutes Evesham went further ahead and went into half time leading 3-0.
Any early goal in the third quarter saw Kettering get their heads up, and press Evesham back, but two further goals for the home side appeared to have seen the game home. An early injury to one of the Evesham players left them down to the bare 11 fit players.
As the fourth quarter started, and with nothing to lose, Kettering pressed high, playing with seven up front at times, but leaving spaces at the back. The game opened up and the home team squad, who were lacking a number of players due to injury, faltered as the fatigue began to tell. Kettering pulled three goals back in a late seven minute burst, and had there been more time, the ending could have been so much closer. The home team were glad of their early goal scoring to ensure they saw out the final quarter to record a 6-4 win.
Good luck to Kettering for the rest of the season.
