Match Report

An extremely windy morning at Amos Lane as we welcomed table topping and unbeaten Alvechurch to our ground.

Rangers begun playing into the wind and after a nervous start begun to grab a foothold in the game. Alvechurch with the wind on their backs were restricted to cross balls that were expertly defended by the Rangers players and a drive at Joe in the Rangers goal - who showed excellent handling to take the ball into his gloves. At the other end a fierce 25 yard drive by Taro was expertly put w/o we by the Alvechurch keeper. 0-0.

Quarter two and Rangers playing with the wind behind them turned the screw and dominated possession- a quick break saw the ball moved to Jay the Hair- who moved it out his feet and smashed a 20 yarder top bins. The quarter continued in the same vain with Rangers looking to extend their lead. 1-0.

Quarter three and the home team knew they would have to sit in and times and hit on the counter. Alvechurch now with the advantage of storm Callum on their back needed to have a go and they did. However, Rangers were in no mood to undo their hard work and every player run into the ground to protect their lead. Such was their work rate that the visitors managed two shots on target, one straight at the Rangers number 1 which again he held superbly, the second a full length diving save by Joe to keep the deserved advantage with the home team. 1-0

Quarter 4 and a swap of ends again to ensure mother nature showed no bias! The Rangers players had a passionate end of quarter chat and entered full of fire and determination - boy did it show! They hunted in packs, thundered into challenges and kept the pressure on the league leaders. A combination from front to back - with 12 passes seen Remy make the touchline under close pressure, look up and square a beautiful cut-back to Joseph to finish with aplomb. Alvechurch still posed a threat on the counter- but a hard working midfield and dominant backline made sure Joe was untroubled during the quarter.

Full time 2-0. A fiercely contested game from first to last whistle. We face Alvechurch in the cup again next week; and look forward to another good encounter.
