Match Report

Diamonds v Peterborough Sports

1st quarter

An even contest with good battles all over the pitch with Peterborough the visitors with good football played by both sides, but it was Diamonds who took the lead through the tireless and hard working Armands Peirags 1-0 Diamonds. Peterborough responded in a positive way and scored through a very well executed free kick on the edge of the box. 1-1

2nd quarter

Again a good battle all over the pitch with every Diamonds and Peterborough player putting in a great performance and no inch given by either side. This was developing in to a tense, tight but quality game by both sides. Chances created by both sides but ended the quarter 1-1

3rd quarter

Peterborough managed to take the lead again from a long range free kick. Very well taken again which seemed the only way to score by both sides, either a bit of quality or a mistake. Diamonds didn’t give in and battled back with a great piece of play switching from left to right Luke Newton took on the left back and fired in to the top corner an absolute cracker to make the game a deserved 2-2. Again quality was the only way a goal was going to be scored

4th quarter

Diamonds now looked like a team more likely to go on and win the game. And after some very good movement by Mason Mullally a rash challenge by 2 Peterborough defenders resulted in a penalty. Harry Slaymaker calmly slotted the penalty to make it a deserved 3-2. This then seemed to push Peterborough on who came back in to the game pushing for the equaliser. Another long range strike made the game 3-3. Which on the balance of things was a fair result.

I would like to thank Peterborough’s coaches and players for contributing to what was an outstanding game of football and on reflection was one of the best games of youth football to have been involved in. A special mention to every player taking part and can be proud of what they were involved in.

Another special mention to the referee who had a tough game to officiate but contributed to a great game of football

Full time 3-3
