YTCT FC 2 - SOUTH GLOUC 3
Yeovil welcomed South Gloucestershire RTC for an early KO in Somerton.
Both teams started brightly on a bobbly, wet pitch. Both combining well with the majoirty of possession in the midfield third. South Glouc looked dangerous around the Yeovil box, particularly down the right flank. Somewhat against the run of play Yeovil countered quickly down the right, with a switch of play to the left, a smart finish saw them go into the break 1-0 ahead.
In the 2nd quarter South Glouc sarted to dominate a lot more of possession. Yeovil showed great discipline to resist being broken down and showed really good shape to frustrate the visiting team. A few efforts off target for South Glouc with Yeovil trying to pick their moment to spring a counter attack. 1-0 at HT though.
Third quarter was much the same. A lot of possessiom for South Glouc in the Yeovil area, but finding it hard to break the home team down. Again Yeovil looked to counter and slight mix up at the back led the Yeovil striker in for a goal. 2-0.
Going in to the final 20 minutes Yeovil new it would be a tough spell to try and keep the away team away. And with a good shape it would have to take something special to break the defensive unit down. And thats exactly what happened. A SG midfielder picking the ball up from outide of the box to fire high into the net. 2-1 and the wind very much in SG sails. Yeovil resiliance was further broken down with two more quick fire goals turning the tie on its head and the away team leading going in to the final 10 minutes. Chances at both ends made for a very exciting finish but the points were South Glouc as the final whistle went at 3-2.
A really good game of football played by two like minded teams. Yeovil wish Luke and his boys all the best and really look forward to the return fixture!
