This morning saw Taunton host Yeovil in what was certain to be an exciting encounter based on previous meetings. Both teams started strongly with play being shared, both sides creating opportunities well and both keepers being tested but keeping the game level. About 10 minutes in, a great chipped ball from Ollie Squire played Ben Southward in to finish cooly infront of goal. Yeovil then hit back and took control of the game and created 2 or 3 great scoring opportunities but were unfortunate not to level the score.
The second quarter began much the same as the first, both sides moving the ball well again but with midfielders doing a better job in midfield, a lot less scoring chances were created. Nearing half time, Jake Davey was knocked inside the box and the referee gave a penalty. Evan Howse finished well. 2-0 Taunton at half time.
The third quarter saw a cagey start, more creative attacking play from Yeovil like we saw in the first quarter, and their effort paid off after a penalty was awarded and dispatched well. 2-1. Taunton started to show a bit more composure and had their best 10 minutes of the game, with some good team play, resulting in a headed goal from Theo Gage after some good team play down the right wing. 3-1.
The last quarter was much the same again, some strong team play from Taunton and a few individual runs attempting to bring Yeovil back into the game. This left a few gaps meaning Taunton countered well on occasions, with Ollie sealing the win scoring from 30 yards, lobbing the Yeovil keeper. 4-1.
A great game from the neutral with many positives on both sides, but Taunton the more clinical on the day.
