Match report Elite football vs Rtc Wilshire
We gathered in the rain at Mill Chase for a 1 pm kickoff on this rain soaked day. Wilshire had battled through torrential rain to get here for this top of the table clash.
The game started lively with Elite taking the game to the big and strong Wilshire team. An early speculative effort from Evan Anderson hit the post and bounced clear before some dilly dallying in the Elite box led to an against the run of play lead for Wilshire. The quarter ended 0-1
2nd quarter fell into a similar pattern , both teams trying to play football and Creating chances . Anderson hits the other post before Sol pops up to get the goal that Elite’s play deserved. 1-1 at half time.
2nd half started and both teams knew they were in a game and despite the terrible conditions the astro surface was allowing a good quality battle both physically and in football styles.
5 minutes into the second half and Elite took the lead after some great ricochet work from Sol led him being fouled in the box for a penalty which he duely despatched low and hard into the net.2-1
The game stepped up a notch with the league leaders behind they started to show why they were top of the table as they stepped up their pressure and power. Controversy ensued after Wilshire looked to have equalised but following a disunion with the linesman a player was deemed to be offside and impeding the goalkeeper’s view. A let off for Elite but not for long as within a couple of minutes we had parity after a great strike from the Wilshire 6 up from the back. Wilshire has their tails up now and a great goal led to them re-establishing their lead to make it 2-3
Elite looked visibly shaken , 3 of the lads having played in the morning and it was starting to show in their legs. However they found additional reserves and a thoughtful ball over the top led to Sol rounding the keeper for his second hat trick in 7 days and an equaliser 3-3
Time was running out with both teams weighed down by the rain but still pushing for a winner. Wilshire gained a corner in the last minute and the ball found its way into the net at the near post for a 3-4 lead. With 20 seconds left on the clock there was no time for a recovery and a great combative game ended up with a 3-4 victory for Wilshire.
A great game in terrible conditions. Congratulations to Wilshire for the victory and well done to Elite for pushing them to the very end. We wish both teams a Merry Xmas and hope to lock horns again in the New Year.
