Halesowen v Worcester report

Fantastic game of football played between 2 sides who are confident in possession of the ball and pose big threats in front of goal.

Halesowen started this game moving the ball well and having plenty of the ball, the wide players were causing plenty of problems with their pace and skills, Worcester also showed their own ability to keep the ball in spells, it was the Worcester keeper who was the busier of the keepers in the first quarter having to react to efforts from Halesowen’s attacking options although it ended all square going into the 2nd quarter.

2nd quarter Halesowen continued to move the ball well and created more chances, the Worcester keeper was having one of those games where it needed something clever to beat him, this finally came following a corner a good delivery and the clever movement allowed one of the Halesowen players to head into the back of the net, Halesowen almost had their second from a free kick had it not been for the awareness of the Worcester player clearing it off the line. Halesowen’s defence remained strong a dealt calmly with any threat during this period of the game.

3rd quarter Worcester stepped up the pressure early on and had a couple of chances from shots from distance which didn’t trouble the Halesowen keeper, Halesowen weathered the pressure and got back into the quarter, it was a counter attack that Halesowen executed perfectly they managed to defend as unit win the ball and play it early to one of Halesowen’s wide player’s who ran 50 yds and made the right decision to play a clever squared pass to the supporting striker to pass into an empty net.

Going into the 4th quarter Halesowen kept their shape and were disciplined to deal with any threat Worcester had, the third goal came following some neat build up play though the thirds to get the ball out to the wide player whose first touch wrong footed the right back, as the Halesowen player cut inside on a run that took him passed another player it was the 3rd Worcester player that bought the Halesowen player down however the referee allowed the advantage and the a waiting Halesowen player Picked his spot and sent his shot into the back of the net from the edge of the box with good calm finish.

Halesowen were by now controlling the game in terms of possession and the tempo it was played at, they got their fourth goal following a free kick just inside the Worcester half, the Halesowen winger fooled everyone as the players lined up to attack the back post the free kick was drilled into the top right hand corner which capped off a very good performance by Halesowen who deservedly took all the points.
