Gloucester welcomed Paulton Rovers to the Walls club for their last game of the season. The Easter holidays had taken there toll on both teams with City only able to field 9 players and their visitors even less with 8 players, this was going to be an interesting game.
The first quarter started slowly as both teams seem to want to save their energy but it was the visitors that just seemed to settle better. Gloucester just seemed to not get going and struggled to cope with 8 man Paulton passing the ball round and to the onlooking crowd you would have thought it was City had the 8 players. It was no surprise that Rovers took the lead through George Stevens with 5minutes to go to the break. 0-1
The second quarter started better for City and they started to put some pressure on the Rovers goal. Things started to flow for City and jackpot they levelled after 2 minutes when Lewis Chishlom headed home a lovely cross from the right, but the old say came to haunt City 'you are at your most vulnerable when you just scored' as they more or less conceded from the kick off as Rovers shot down the right, crossed and there was Tom Glanfield to slot home. Both teams then settled into the quarter and both teams created chances but just couldn't find the finishing touch. 1-1
The third quarter was to be City's undoing as now kicking up the slope they just couldn't get going and out of their half as Rovers made good use of it. Things just didn't seemed to go well and every little break went Paulton way. It was no surprise again when the visitors grabbed another goal through Stevens again 10minutes in. With City now not coping with a Rovers side comfortable on the ball and enjoying, Rovers grabbed another a couple of minutes later when Will Hillier long range shot looped over City's keeper. 1-4
Now with nothing to lose the City coaching staff told the lads to go out and enjoy their last quarter of JPL football for this season and enjoy. With new freedom City seemed to find the mojo and attacked the Rovers defence time and time again but could the y get that goal that could spark a revival. Sadly no some excellent defending and wayward shots kept the scores as it was.
Final score 1-4
Well played to the 8 players of Rovers .
Well done to the City lads in their first JPL season some good times and some days to learn from.
