Saints start fast against Yeovil
A phenomenal start from Saints in the first 20 minutes set them on the way to an excellent victory against a strong Yeovil team.
It was Yeovil in fact who started brightly in the first couple of minutes with some good play on the left hand side, however after Saints forced a corner in the 3rd minute and Mead was on hand to head in at the back post. This encourgaed Saints to continue to push on and it wasnt long before Hodges threaded a through ball for Mead to grab his second goal from a tigh angle. Yeovil continued to try an play down the left with their number 3 looking lively. Rayson tunred goalscorer after Saints passed their way from a GK with Aspin, Robins, Osborne all involved in the build up play. There was still time for more goals as Mead had one ruled out for being offside and then Hodges set up another for Jenkins to calmly side foot past the gk into the bottom corner.
In the second period Yeovil again started brightly but failed to create much against a compact Saints team. Gray scored from just outside the area after Rickards-Tiley had kept possession of the ball well in the middle. Hurford scored after the ball struck both posts and the half time whistle went.
Although no goals in the third period there was still plaenty of action to report with Yeovil starting to create more half chances and a couple free headers from corners could of forced more from their point of view. Hurford found himself in plenty of space and had a few opportunities to put Saints further ahead but couldn't convert. A shot that blasted over from 9 yards was Yeovils best chance.
The final period was more of a 50/50 period with both teams having chances, Yeovil forced an OG through a well delivered corner. Yeovil continued to press and had the better of the chances in the final period however failed to create a 'clear cut' chance. Number 11 for Yeovil did well on the right and both GKs made notable long range saves.
Well played both teams a game played in good spirit and some great football.
