Aldershot Academy emerged 7-2 winners in their first home game of the season. Both teams played fantastic football in very difficult weather conditions.
It was a tight first quarter with the score at 2-1 to Aldershot thanks to goals from Joe Goddard and Nathan Bond as the teams came in for the first break. The game was fairly hectic and end-to-end with neither side looking overly confident with ball at feet.
The second quarter was a similarly tight affair with both teams creating some good chances at each end, however finding it difficult to finish on the wet surface. Aldershot added one goal to their lead through a wonderful solo effort from Alex Gorodecky who drove past one defender on the right-hand side with ease, before showing good feet to dribble past two more opposition players before slotting the ball in the bottom right corner of the net. 3-1 to Aldershot at half-time. The best individual piece of skill in the half was from George Chandler who used a scissors move to beat a defender.
Aldershot came into their own in the third quarter, playing with creative freedom all through the thirds and producing many good attacking chances. Richard Dias was particularly composed on the ball at centre-back, Cruyff turning his was past pressing players with ease. The rain didn't relent, and neither did Aldershot, adding a fourth, fifth and sixth goal to their tally through Connor Harris, Milo Swanton and James Hubble respectively. Aldershot were unlucky not to add a seventh goal when TJ Taylor's curling effort from the edge of the penalty area narrowly sailed past the post.
Aldershot were equally as dominant in the final quarter of the game. Luke Saunders ran the game from midfield while Josh Mcmahon and Lucas Dyer terrorised the opposition with their pace up front. Monty Money was fouled several times in midfield as his feet were too quick for the Ignite Academy players to handle. Aldershot completed the scoring late in the game through an unfortunate own goal from an opposition defender.
Both Aldershot goalkeepers Will Lott and Jacquine Obaditch were outstanding in net, making some good saves and showing technical quality playing out from the back.
