Fine way to finish
Shortwood United welcomed Cheltenham Town to the Meadowbank stadium for the last game of the season.
The first quarter was very even with few chances created by either side.
Shortwood began to take control in the second quarter and were rewarded with a goal by Fraser Hankins who latched onto a through ball from Jake Evans, took it past a defender and slotted it past the keeper. The Shortwood keeper Harrison Page was then called upon to make a great save when a Cheltenham header looked certain to hit the net. Shortwood then scored a second goal when Fraser Hankins passed to Ethan Moulden to finish from inside the box.
In the third quarter Jake Evans scored Shortwood’s third goal when he followed up a Toby Colliver free kick to slot the ball into the net. Shortwood’s fourth goal came from a Callum Freeman corner which Taylor Bayliss forced home from short range. Jamie Apew scored Shortwood’s fifth goal from the edge of the box after a Fraser Hankins cross. The sixth Shortwood goal followed another Fraser Hankins cross to Jake Evans who took the ball down and then fired it into the net.
The final quarter saw Jake Evans complete his hat trick when he lobbed a through ball from Ethan Moulden over the Cheltenham keeper. Shortwood ended the game 7-0.
Whilst it was a very strong performance by Shortwood, Cheltenham worked hard throughout the game which was played in a very good spirit.
