Stoke RTC 5- 3 Pro Football Academy

Stoke RTC welcomed Pro Football Academy to Newcastle College on a cool Autumn morning.

The Manchester based team took an early lead through an early error by a Stoke defender, who put his goalkeeper under unnecessary pressure, forcing a mistake. 0-1. Stoke did not drop their heads and hit back immediately after Kane Allcock pressed high up the pitch and sqaured to Harvey Pickering, who took his goal well, ifnishing neatly in the bottom corner.

The second quarter of the game remained at 1-1, with PFA enjoying more possession, with Stoke looking to hit them on the break.

Stoke gifted PFA another goal from the kick off of the second half, after a Stoke defender received the ball from the goal kick, miscontrolled, falling to a delighted PFA striker who couldn't quite believe his luck. Yet again, Stoke were not derailed and hit back immediately again, after a long ball over the top of the PFA defence was received by the excellent Kane Allcock, who ran through to finish for his second of the game. The third quarter contained most of the goals and it was PFA who hit back next, after the Stoke defence gave away possession carelessly after being pressed high up the pitch and finished brilliantly by the PFA striker. Stoke equalised for a third time shortly after, when the ball was cleared after a Stoke corner, falling to a Stoke defender who finished with a long range shot.

The fourth corner was tied at 3-3 and the game could have gone either way at this point. But it was Stoke who looked the side who were relishing in their new found belief. Both teams hit the woodwork, before a cross by a Stoke winger was headed in by a PFA player into his own goal. 4-3 to Stoke. Stoke continued to defend doggedly, enjoying far less possesion than their opponents, but looking likely to score every time they went forward with the magic of their forward line. A free kick won high up the pitch on the Stoke right was delivered into the box and Joe Lee was first to meet the ball, heading into the top corner to put the result beyond doubt.

5-3 to Stoke. A morale boosting victory for the team in red.
