Match Report

Cloudy Skies But Good Play as Paulton Rovers Host North Somerset

After heavy rain and under cloudy skies, Paulton Rovers hosted North Somerset RTC. From the outset North Somerset looked switched on and dominant as they moved the ball with ease.  With North Somerset in control of the midfield they won a free kick on the right wing. After a well delivered ball and some messy interchanges in the box, the ball went in off of the inside of the post, 0-1. North Somerset continued to press when out of possession and also passed well in possession. On one occasion, a well-timed through ball allowed the striker to beat the offside trap with a great run from deep and then score with a well struck shot. Paulton Rovers attacks into the final third met with little reward. This was exemplified late in the quarter by a well taken PR free-kick which only needed a touch to steer goal wards, but unfortunately missed everyone. First Quarter, 0 – 2.

At the start of the second quarter a long North Somerset ball, which looked to be going out, held up in the damp grass long enough to enable a great cross to be supplied to a player on the edge of the area who with a fine strike gave the PR keeper no chance. Paulton rallied, however North Somerset again provided a great cross for a controlled header to make it 0 - 4. Both teams enjoyed more chances with a curling shot by Will Ford (denied by the post) the pick of the crop for PR. Second Quarter ended 0 – 4.

The third quarter saw some positive play from PR, who attacked in numbers and gave NS more to think about. The game became more even, though PR looked more likely to score. However, against the run of play a long goal kick found its way into the PR box, for the striker to edge out the PR keeper and calmly find the net. Both teams used the width of the pitch well and caused problems for the defences, but all shots missed the target. Third quarter, 0 – 5.

Despite a solid effort from Paulton, North Somerset had the wind in their sails and played with confidence and imagination. Goals came in quick succession, a rebound from a fine save, a shot from close range, a well taken shot after good play down the right and a direct run on goal from a goal kick. The pick of the goals was a mazy run down the left, beating numerous players and delivering an excellent cross followed by a well-placed strike. The final score was 0 – 10.

Well done North Somerset you played well and deserved your win today; PR will be working hard to match your good play next time.
