Paulton vs PG10
With ferocious gale force winds battering across the 3g at Norton Hill School, Paulton Rovers entertained PG10. The first quarter began with scrappy interchanges, with both team attempting to find ways to tame the extremely challenging conditions. Play zipped from end to end with little control and no discernible shots. PG10 showed the early promise with a well struck corner perfectly placed in the danger zone, which Paulton were lucky to clear. Paulton were beginning to find their feet with some excellent linked play on the right wing. Again, on the right, a superb through ball finds the Paulton forward, his well struck effort flew narrowly over the crossbar. PG10 had the final say of the quarter with another deadly corner cleared by a scrabbling Paulton defence. First Quarter, 0 – 0.
The second quarter begins with immediate PG10 pressure, however the Paulton defence are resolute with some well timed and fearless tackling. The Paulton midfield are now becoming more self-assured and imposing themselves on play. Then came a moment of speculative audacity; from a PG10 clearance to the Paulton defence, a high shot from the half way line drops behind the keeper’s head and into the goal. Although Paulton are in high spirits, PG10 regroup, continue to battle for every ball, the game is far from over. Second Quarter, 1 – 0.
The third quarter began with a composed Paulton side playing in a relaxed and controlled fashion and aiming to extend their lead. Their reward came in the 3rd minute after some confident and patient build-up play on the right. Finding their striker 20 yards out, he was able to hit a well-placed dipping shot over the out stretched keeper hands. Again, PG10 fought back, but after a fortunate forward ball following a tackle, the Paulton striker found himself 1v1 with the keeper. A cool head saw him scoop it over the keeper and Paulton had scored two goals in quick succession. Paulton’s dominance continued with a follow-up goal ruled offside after a free-hit the cross-bar. The remaining 10 mins saw PG10 scrap there way back into the game. Composed and positive play, making it difficult for Paulton. PG10 were making progress but unable to test the Paulton keeper. Quarter, 3 – 0.
The final quarter began with PG10 continuing in the same fashion as they finished the 3rd Quarter. They continued to press but with no gain. Paulton were comfortable absorbing the pressure and begin to look increasing threatening, particularly on both wings. On the left, a shot from a well-placed through ball tests the keeper. Again, the PG10 keeper is called into action and bravely comes of best in a 1v1 with the Paulton wing back. In summary, an entertaining game played under difficult conditions with some excellent passages of play from both teams. Final Score 3-0.
