Match Report

Kettering Town V Coventry Sky Blues

We met Coventry in the cup our new rivals who beat us last time in the league 5-4 with the last kick of the game.We decided to change the system to out number Coventry in different areas after conceding 5 last time although this worked we still somehow managed to lose by 1 goal again. We started better than last time played some outstanding football mixing it up playing out from the back at every opportunity but also going long when needed ,great half creating chance after chance , was at times vulnerable to the counter against very quick players and Coventry made a couple of chances well saved by Dylan.

Second half got off like the first ,quick aggressive passing and pressing football it was quite clear both teams wanted to progress to the next round of the cup. There were chances created from both teams but again most of the chances were created by Kettering but we couldn't put the ball in the net. It was Coventry who broke the deadlock with a quick break, looked like their game plan to get Kettering on the quick break using the centre forward,he has great control of the ball he was quick strong and very skilful caused us problems , he managed to break free and score. Kettering didn’t give up hope and played some beautiful football ,2 goals scored by Logan we’re called off side . the game was very intense all afternoon but with a minute left on the clock Kettering were awarded a free kick from around the 25/30 yard area . looks like it’s probably the last kick off the game Kettering’s captain Kyle stepped forward hitting a beautiful shot which was going top corner but somehow Coventry’s keeper managed to get across and marginally tip it round the corner of the post for a corner. The corner was eating away into injury time Coventry cleared there lines and the ref blow his whistle. I might add the ref was top quality today as were the boys ,a top game to watch and it’s fair to say if we play like that all season we will be very hard to beat. Top performance from everyone well done lads excellent game even though we are still wondering how we managed to lose.Good luck to Coventry in the next round."
