In very windy conditions North Somerset U15's
hosted South Somerset U15's in the first round of the Cup at Nailsea School.
The game began with
South Somerset adapting to the weather quickest to break away and take the lead
within the first 5 minutes. The remainder of the first half was evenly matched
with both sides getting chances with Freddie King scoring to make it 1-1 before
mistakes from the North Somerset defence, which the visitors took advantage of
to give them the lead again making it 2-1 at the break.
North Somerset then
stepped up a gear in the second half, pressed much better from the front and created
much more going forward. Henry Hughes followed in a great strike from Dec
Popham which hit the post to bring the scores level. Shortly after Charlie
Biggs finished off a well worked team goal to give the hosts the lead. The next
period of the game was dominated by North Somerset but they failed to convert only managing to hit the post or crossbar on 4 occasions keeping the game close. South
Somerset then began to come back into the game and created several chances
themselves before a counter attack finished off with a superb chip by King
for his second goal extended the lead to 4-2. King then added another to grab
himself his second hattrick this season before the game was finished off with a
late strike from Gethin Clarke to make the final score 6-2.
