Oakwood Youth FC v Woking
We welcomed the visit from Woking FC to Test Park for a 12.30 kick off.
I felt we controlled much of the play in Q1 being patient in the build up from defensive third to midfield third. We didn't really penetrate the final third very much but was happy with the way we controlled the play. Woking kept their shape very well and towards the end of the quarter intercepted the play and broke which ended in a goal and putting them 0-1 to the good which I felt was against the run of play.
In Q2 much of the same very competent in the defensive third and Woking started to get a hold of the midfield area. A defensive misplaced pass ended up with Woking passing out to the right. We didn't press quick enough for my liking and a ball was put into the middle and defender/goalkeeper didn't deal as they would normally and the mix up ended in a goal putting Woking 0-2 to the good. The pleasing thing from an Oakwood prospective is we didn't let our heads drop. We were fortunate to be awarded a penalty kick which wasn't converted with a good two saves from their keeper. Finally, a bit of good play ended up breaking to David Gkika and he ended up putting us back into the game making it 1-2.
In Q3 the result stayed at 1-2 but felt we were edging our way back into the game. I felt technically we were very good today but may be the physical side we were left asking a bit. Both teams had good possession in the midfield third.
Into Q4 we and I felt we could get back into the game, but Woking broke from kick off and we found ourselves asking a bit and they punished us by going 1-3 ahead. Again, we carried on with some good possessional play but left a little short up front so didn't really cause too much problems for Woking. We moved into the final stages of the game and we had a good bit of pass and move play which ended up with Tom Green scoring and making it 2-3. The final 5 minutes we were on top but just couldn't convert to get the equaliser.
Overall pleased with how we played and good luck to Woking going forward.
