Paulton Rovers vs Herefordshire RTC
It was a bright & sunny morning at Norton Hill School where the two sides met for a 10:30KO.
Hereford started the game on the front foot and were creating a lot of chances early on in the game to take the lead, only to be denied by the Paulton keeper Will Gregory who made some impressive saves to keep the scores level.
However, the visitors kept on attacking throughout the first half and finally found a breakthrough with a well placed long-range effort finding the bottom corner of the net.
This seemed to bring Paulton to life and they started to counter- attack well. Hugh Carruthers doing well down the left wing to deliver a good cross for Josh Gwyther, who was brought down inside the box. Josh calmly stepped up to put the scores level with a well taken penalty.
The second half begun and the game opened up with both teams playing some impressive football and attacking well. The home side had more control and started to create more chances. A corner that was met by Josh, was headed into the back of the net to put the home side into the lead, 2-1.
However, Hereford were not going to give up and responded well, again putting pressure on the home team. With 15 minutes to play, the Hereford striker pounced onto a defensive error to put the scores level.
After an impressive effort from both sets of players, neither side could get the winning goal in normal time..............penalties would decide the game.
Paulton came away winners on the day, winning the penalty shootout 4-2.
A fantastic game for the spectator!
