Match Report

Diamonds v Stourbridge

1st quarter

On a very very windy day football was always going to be difficult but it has to be said both sides really tried their best. It was a game of quality football, mistakes, excellent finishing and at times a really competitive battle. But it was Diamonds who made the quick start who took the lead through Carter Oakes after 2 minutes to make it 1-0. Diamonds appeared in the ascendancy and made it 2-0 on 8 minutes. Stourbridge were really breaking well and were causing problems every time they went forward and got their reward after 17minutes to make it 2-1 at the break.

2nd quarter

Again the weather really telling and another goal from Diamonds on 25 minutes from Matthew Ellis to make the score 3-1. This though sparked Stourbridge and when a Diamonds player made a lunge a penalty was given despite the frustration of the Diamonds protesting his innocence. Maybe it wasn’t, maybe it was but a lesson to be learnt. A very clinical penalty converted to make it 3-2. With Stourbridge now on the ascendancy they equalised after a very good ball played between the 2 centre backs for a very good finish to make it 3-3 at the break.

3rd quarter

With the wind favouring Diamonds a little in the quarter they started the quarter really well and put pressure on the Stourbridge lads and took full advantage on 44 minutes when Carter Oakes struck a fantastic effort to make it 4-3. Stourbridge caught Diamonds on the break a couple of times  and could have scored again, and then they did score when a long range effort was tipped on to the post and rebounded and hit the keepers back and crept in 4-4. But it was Diamonds who came back with the decisive finish from Tyler Allen on 60 minutes for his second of the game to make it 5-4.

4th quarter

4 seasons in one day as the sun made way for some hail, so again tough conditions. This was more of a battle in this quarter with both sides creating chances and really physically competing against each. On another day Diamonds could have scored again but so could Stourbridge. Well done to both sides for such a tense game despite the difficult weather. End 5-4 Diamonds.
