Stoke RTC vs AFC Fylde
Stoke RTC welcomed AFC Fylde to Newcastle College on a sunny Saturday morning JPL fixture. It ended up being a high scoring affair, with both teams playing attacking football throughout.
The away team took the lead early on in the game after a well taken corner was powerfully headed into the top corner of the goal. The hosts soon levelled though after a high press from Kane Alcock who then squared to Harvey Pickering who made it 1-1. Stoke began to take control of the game and looked very strong going forward. It was soon 2-1 when Jacob Cartwright, who started the game excellently it has to be said, finished from the edge of the penalty area. 2-1 soon became 3-1 when Harvey Pickering's pace and trickery was too much for the opposing defenders and he finished neatly into the bottom corner.
AFC Fylde began the quarter the stronger of the two teams and pulled one back after a pacy run through the midfield. Kane Alcock went straight up the other end of the field though to make it 4-2 after some more magic from Harvey Pickering assisted the goal with a great assist. Kane then produced a moment of magic of his own shortly after and finished too. This made it 5-2. Stoke were now in full flow and added a further goal through the hard working Ollie Campbell finished smartly from the edge of the penalty area. Fylde did pull one back before half time after a good counter attack, which caught the Stoke defence out. Half time score- Stoke RTC 6-3 AFC Fylde.
Stoke started the second half well after yet again pressing high up the field and winning the ball back in dangerous areas. Kane Alcock capitalised first followed by Jacob Cartwight. AFC Fylde pulled another goal back shortly after and were clearly not in the mood for giving up the game. However Stoke did add further goals before the end of the quarter through a well struck penalty from Joe Lee and another Kane Alcock neat finish.
The game finished at a slightly slower tempo as both teams were now tiring. Although there were a further two goals. AFC Fylde pulled one back after a neat cross was finished at the back post. Joe Lee did have the last say though after he scored his second of the game, which was long range screamer!
A good win for the boys in red. We wish AFC Fylde luck for the rest of the season. Final score- Stoke RTC 11-5 AFC Fylde
