Worcester City U15 v Cirencester Town
Worcester City welcomed Cirencester to Perdiswell Sports Centre with gale force winds making quality football very difficult for the boys.
1st quarter - Cirencester won the toss and chose to play with the benefit of the wind for the first two quarters. With the teams not having played each other before in the league there was a lot of action in midfield as the players tried to work out how best to score past their opponants. Strong defending by both teams lead to very little in the way of clear goal scoring opportunities and the quarter ended goalless.
2nd quarter - Cirencester started this quarter brighter no doubt aware they had to make the most of the prevailing wind. A spell of sustained pressure resulted in a corner that was flicked towards goal which Joe cleared off the line. Another attack down the left from Cirencester ended with the ball in the net, however the linesman put his flag up after the forward had tapped in from an offside position. The frustration of scoring and having it ruled out was then felt by WCFC who had a goal disallowed following good work by Corbin and Archie.
3rd quarter - With the teams changing ends and WCFC benefitting from the wind they started to enjoy longer spells of pressure. They were rewarded for their efforts when Hobbo curled a stunning free kick into the top corner from the left hand side to make it 1-0! The remainder of the quarter was end to end, however with both teams being so defensively strong chances were again limited.
4th - Cirencester having nothing to lose changed to a more attacking formation which also lead to more risk on the counter attack. On a couple of occasions Alex and Jack were played in by Tyler and Charlie, but fine defensive tackles stopped WCFC extending their lead. In the last 10 minutes Cirencester pushed forward and this time it was WCFC's defence that held firm. Frustration boiled over towards the end of the game and one of Cirencester's players was sent out as WCFC saw the game out 1-0.
Credit to both sets of players as the standard of football was very good considering conditions and only a excellent free kick separated the sides.
