North Somerset RTC V Kidderminster Harriers U16’s
North Somerset welcomed todays visitors Kidderminster Harriers U16’s to Nailsea School 3G for an 11:15 KO in today’s U16’s Elite league match.
Kidderminster started really well, from the first whistle they managed to cover lots of ground very quickly indeed and when not in possession forced NS to make mistakes by pressing very quickly. NS did start to get back into the match but then on 9 minutes were undone from a counter attack following a cleared free kick from NS, Kidderminster managed to sweep the ball out to the right forward attacker who quickly crossed the ball into the center attacking player who’s shot hit the roof of the net 0-1.
But on 13 minutes NS did draw level following a corner, the ball initially was cleared but was played back across goal for Dillon Hollow to glance the ball into the bottom corner. 1-1.
The second period started very well for NS and on 24 minutes was awarded a free kick from 20 yards out, Alex Oliver hit the shot straight over the keeper 2-1. And on 29 minutes another free kick, this time the Kidderminster keeper pulled off a suburb save this time denying Alex a second. Then on 31 minutes a NS mistake gifted Kidderminster a goal, a sloppy back pass allowed the forward to pick up the ball and slot home beating the advancing NS keeper. 2-2. NS didn’t give up and then on 40 minutes went 3-2 up following an initial free kick was defended only for Mike Pouncey to react quickest and his shot was finished well.
Kidderminster came out after the break a different team, NS seemed to give up and lacked the determination they showed in the first 2 periods. On 42 minutes a Kidderminster equaliser and then on 48 minutes they deservedly took the lead with some lovely football and a clever shot on the end of a well drilled move. And on 50 minutes it was game over as a contest as Kidderminster scored a third goal in just over 9 minutes 3-5. NS did have small periods where they seemed to keep possession well but just lacked any killer attitude in the final third.
Kidderminster didn’t show any compassion in the final quarter and deservedly scored another quick goal after the restart which knocked the wind out of NS, down to 13 players due to injuries and players not available for todays match NS just couldn’t get into the second half like they did early on.
A credit to Kidderminster who managed a further 4 goals in the period and the best of the bunch was a headed goal into the top corner following some lovely open play on the left and a lovely cross and strong header giving the NS keeper no chance. We wish Kidderminster all the best in their remaining matches and a safe journey back home. Well played.
