Evesham United vs North Somerset U13 JPL Trophy Quarter Finals 6 Apr 19
North Somerset moved into the JPL trophy semi finals, after beating Evesham in the Vale.
Evesham started brightly and shaded the opening exchanges, however it was Somerset who took an early lead with a well taken goal finishing from just outside the box, 0-1. A fairly even contest after that, Evesham driving forward with Charlie C and Ben G causing issues for the defence, however Somerset were organized throughout (number 8 at the back, solid throughout the game for Somerset), and always posed a danger going forward. Evesham equalised on 10 mins, with Charlie Grubb finishing well high into the net from a great run on the RHS, 1-1. Evens for the next 10 mins, then the visitors took the lead again, with an odd goal when time appeared to stand still leaving a Somerset player unmarked to score to the keepers RHS, good finish but too easy. Three minutes later and it was 3-1 to the visitors, following a well taken half volley, from the edge of the box to the top RHS. Things were looking bad for Evesham, however they grabbed a lifeline when Cobey scored an excellent long range direct free kick, great goal. No further goals and the visitors took a 3-2 lead into the break, all to play for.
Second half and again Evesham started brightly. Three close chances for the home team and their tails were up, before Somerset scored again (perhaps against the run of play) with another excellent goal, across the keeper and into the top RHS of the net. Evesham continued to push, but were punished with a clinical goal from Somerset who scored after an attacking free kick to Evesham broke, they ran the full length of the pitch and an excellent finish; 5-2 to the visitors. Somerset were looking well organised, the midfield was disciplined and passing accurately well (numbers 12 and 22 standing out) and a threat upfront. With the game virtually won, little in the way of chances for the next 20 mins, until Oli Smith slotted one home for Evesham to reduce the deficit to 2 goals, and provide a glimmer of hope. A couple of further half chances for each team, however no further goals, in the game and it was Somerset who progressed to the semi finals.
Overall a good game against 2 well matched sides, played in a good spirit. On the day Somerset were deserved winners, they took their chances really well and maintained discipline and passing accuracy throughout. Best of luck in the Semi Finals from all at Evesham.
