Shortwood United welcomed Yeovil Town to the Meadowbank Stadium on a very windy Saturday morning.
Yeovil Town had the better of the first two quarters benefiting from the strong wind. A resolute Shortwood defensive display restricted Yeovil’s chances, however they took the lead in the second quarter when their striker latched onto a through ball and rounded the keeper to score.
In the third and fourth quarter the wind was in Shortwood’s favour with Yeovil finding it difficult to escape their half of the pitch.
Toby Colliver equalised early in the third quarter with a free kick from inside the Shortwood half. Jake Evans then added a second Shortwood goal with a header from a Callum Freeman cross.
Shortwood’s pressure continued in the fourth quarter with James Day scoring Shortwood’s third goal following in on a deflected Jamie Apew free kick to tap home from short range. Jake Evans added a fourth Shortwood goal when he brought down a high swirling ball to score from the edge of the box. The final Shortwood goal was a Fraser Hankins penalty after he was brought down in the box.
The final score was 5-1 to Shortwood with both teams playing some good football in very difficult windy conditions.
