MK Gallacticos FC Elite v Oxfordshire Skill Acquisition

Jare (2)

This was the maiden game in the The Junior Premier League for the boys and it kicked off with the first of two JPL Cup matches, first hosting Oxfordshire Skill Acquisition.

Playing for the first time at their new ground, Sport Central MK, Elite started the game off well. Despite the great start, OSA still pushed up looking to take advantage of any mistakes but the defence held up well. The chances came for the Gallacticos but a lack of clinical finishing up front meant chances were wasted in front of goal, including the framework being hit.

A pass to Theo in his box, saw the goalkeeper play the ball back out to the opposition who wasted no time in finishing his one versus one opportunity to secure a surprise lead for the visitors. 1-0.

Despite the setback, Elite held strong and continued to play some great football. Eventually an error from the opposition goalkeeper saw their pass find Jare who despatched the opportunity expertly from close range. 1-1.

Elite now had some sail in their winds and the momentum was clearly with them, OSA were starting to flank. A great through ball down the left channel from Joe, found Jedi with space to run in towards the opposition box. As Jedi reached the inside of the box from the left hand side, he opened his body up early and side footed the ball over the goalkeeper to lob him. It was a fantastic way to take the lead demonstrating great technique to catch the keeper out. 2-1.

The second quarter continued with the odd half chance for OSA and Elite squandering away clear cut chances but the resilience of the visitors was not only admirable but impressive, as they were determined to get back in to the game. The pace of the game slowed down with OSA demonstrating great defensive compactness to lock out constant threats down both flanks.

OSA’s grit would prove fruitful when a late free kick won 30 yards outside of the area was hit on target. With goalkeeper Theo unfortunately dropping the ball in front of him, the quick-thinking OSA attacker slotted home from 5 yards out. 2-2.

The third quarter proved to be very similar to the second quarter which saw Elite waste opportunities in front of goal.

The last quarter was where the Gallacticos decided to react and it was almost instant. Captain James, found space in the area after an attempt on goal had hit the cross bar and was able to smash home from just a few yards out to give Elite the lead. 3-2.

OSA now had two injuries which meant they were playing with a man down but they still played impressive football despite the handicap. The visitors looked threatening down the left hand flank where they were finding plenty of space but enough inside the box to convert anything.

Some great play down both wings created even more chances and a cross from the right saw the resulting chaos inside the box convert in to a goal when Jare, with his back to goal, swivelled and used his right foot to score from 10 yards out. 4-2.

The rout was completed when, again from 10 yards out, Eric found space in the box to intelligently turn from his right foot on to his left and slot home in to the bottom left hand corner of the OSA goal. 5-2.

A fantastic debut for the boys in the JPL and great start to their JPL Cup campaign.
