SG v WSM
South Glos welcomed Weston Super Mare to Lockleaze sports centre for their first game of the season in group 4 of the cup. The game started at a frantic pace with 2 goals in the first 3 minutes. A corner for South Glos was headed home by Archie Davies but straight from the re-start Weston attacked down the right wing and a pin point cross was headed home by Weston which gave the South Glos keeper no chance of stopping. On 9 minutes Mitch Davies for South Glos picked up the ball 35 yards out and hit the ball over the keeper to make it 2- 1. Curtis Dunn scored from the edge of the box to give South Glos a 3 – 1 lead after 12 minutes. Weston continued to attack and got a corner which was well saved by Jamie Jordan in the South Glosgoal at he end of the 1st quarter.
7 minutes into the second quarter Brandon Oputeri beat the keeper at his near post after good work from Mitch to make it 4 -1. A minute later South Glos were awarded a penalty which although struck well by Jake Woodman was well saved by the Weston keeper but Curtis scored the rebound to make it 5 -1. After 15 minutes Weston worked the ball into the penalty area which Luke Bence and Aaron Hart managed to clear and the 2nd quarter ended with South Glos winning 5 – 1.
The 3rd quarter started with both teams contesting every ball and after 6 minutes a 6th goal for South Glos came courtesy of a free kick taken by Brandon and headed in by Carwyn Crow. Weston continued to press and although they had 3 quick free kicks unfortunatly for Weston they didnt really test the South Glos keeper. The final 6 minutes of the 3rd quarter brought another 3 goals for South Glos. Two goals for Lewis Wheeler either side of a goal by Kyle Hiatt made it 9 – 1 at the end of the 3rd quarter. A mention for Carwyn during the last 6 minutes for his attempted acrobatic shot on goal where he rose like a Salmon but missed and landed like a shot pheasant.
Although both teams continued to play their football in the 4th quarter there were no more goals scored although Aaron nearly scored during this period whilst having a spell going forward but and the expedition into oposition territory possibly caused dizziness and the chance was missed. The referee ended the match with a comfortable 9 – 1 win for South Glos.
