Ajay double enough for BCS.
BCS welcomed Basingstoke to Chapel Gate for their opening game of the season in the JPL Cup.
The game started brightly with Basingstoke settling the quicker, but BCS progressively found their feet as the game went on.
Both sides were playing some great football and it was a good fixture to entertain the crowd with chances created at both ends.
BCS eventually took the lead on 35 minutes when Ajay Coombes was found free in the box to slot home from close range.
Whilst BCS were keen to push on from this, the lead lasted no longer than 5 minutes as Basingstoke were awarded a penalty for handball on the stroke of half time. A finally struck shot from 16 yards gave parity at the interval with both sides then looking to push on to win the game in the 2nd half.
With the interval came a chance to reflect on the first half and it was BCS who started the brighter and started to take control.
On 65 minutes following some great work and delivery from Frankie Castillo-McPherson finding Ajay Coombes who bravely headed home in front of the advancing keeper to give BCS the advantage. However, the game would take an unexpected turn with a sin bin and BCS being reduced to 10 players.
This gave Basingstoke a chance to pile on the pressure and push for an equaliser, but BCS stood firm to secure their first win of the season.
Many thanks to the players, coaches and parents who all contributed to a fine season opener today, all the best for the season.
