Torquay vs Fc Wilts
A blustery morning saw Torquay United welcome FC Wilts to Torbay, with both sides sat in the top half of the table. The previous match between the two sides had been a very good game, so more of the same was expected this morning.
Wilts began the game well and were quick to get on the front foot. Within ten minutes, the visitors were a goal ahead when a good move down the right created space for a low shot into the corner. They doubled their lead shortly after, again down the right hand side and it was another good finish across goal.
Torquay responded at the end of the first quarter with a deflected effort from outside the box, which wrongfooted the Wilts goalkeeper.
The second quarter saw a change of shape for the hosts, and they began to press Wilts quicker and more intensely. This brought a number of opportunities for the hosts, but they were unable to find a leveller. Wilts looked dangerous in possession too, and were quick to get in behind the Torquay backline, only to be denied by Jacob Mortimore in goal.
The third quarter saw the hosts get level, as Jay Rich poked home when put through on goal. The hosts were forcing Wilts into a more direct style, which did cause problems for the Torquay back line on occasion.
With the scoreboard level going into the final quarter, it felt like one of those matches where a bit of quality would win it. It was Wilts that provided it with a 40 yard effort which looped just underneath the crossbar. Torquay responded well to this setback again, with a Toby Roberts thunderbolt coming closest to levelling, as it hit the outside of the post. In the final stages, Wilts broke forward on the counter and finished from close range to wrap the game up.
Credit to both sides and coaches for playing the game in the right spirit throughout.
