Match Report

Sutton Town vs Redditch

Sutton Coldfield Town 6-0 Redditch United

The Royals maintained top spot in the division with a comprehensive victory over Redditch United despite missing a number of key players.

In a game which was dominated by the hosts in both possession & territory, the visitors defended resolutely both mentally as well as physically, their keeper easily taking the man of the match award with some fine saves.

However, it was only a matter of time before the breakthrough came. A move which emanated down the left side of midfield, resulted in Louis arriving late into the box after a square ball across the face, to sweep in from 12 yards. During the opening period, Sutton also hit the base of the post with Ra’marn cracking a fine shot across the keeper, only to see his effort unluckily bounce back into play. A number of other shots and last ditch defending kept the score to 1-0 at half time.

A sublime move involving slick one touch passing resulted in the Royals second, just into the second half. Shev dropped the ball back to Luke, who in turn played it back into a forward run for Shev. Shev slid in Ben at an angle to take out the defending challenge and Ben cooly slotted into the opposite corner from 15 yards.

Cydon then put his name on the scoresheet after closing down the Redditch defence and scored purely due to his own hard work, making it 3-0.

The hosts fourth was again down to desire and determination. A long clearance from deep in the Sutton half saw Louis latch onto the ball at full pace, chesting it down and sweeping past the centre half in one move, before lobbing the onrushing keeper.

Louis then completed his hat-trick with a close range effort as Sutton pinned Redditch back with consistent waves of attacking play.

In credit to the visitors, they never gave up or dropped their heads and tried to build spells of possession themselves, but the Sutton’s defensive line of Sean, Reece, Brandon & Aiden always had the upper hand and stood resolute.

The final goal came after a deep Sean corner was nodded back across goal by Jessi and Jarrel had the simple task of tapping in at the back post.

Final score Sutton Town 6-0 Redditch United.
