Match Report
Alvechurch vs South Gloucester (U14s)
This was a well fought, competitive fixture played on an alternative 3G surface in Dudley due to water-logging at our normal venue at Hopwood.
Both teams started the game brightly but it was S Gloucs who took the lead first. A well-worked goal down the right hand side (the right winger for S G had a very good game) which the SG striker slotted in from close range. 0-1.
Alvechurch then grew into the game and scored twice in the third quarter. A splendid move in the 45th minute between Chaz and Jake. Followed by a penalty won by Rudy who got just ahead of the S G defender and felt the contact. A marginal decision, but there is no VAR in Dudley (Yet!). Zach dispatched the penalty very calmly. 2-1.
The fourth quarter was very competitive with both teams eager to stamp their final authority. The game changed when S Glouc won a corner which was floated in and decieved everyone including the Alve goalkeeper at his far post. I'm sure the corner taker would concede he didnt mean it but gladly would take it! 2-2.
The remainder of the match was frantic and somewhat 'scrappy' in contrast to the rest of the game; both teams going flat-out for the win. S G got the killer blow, breaking the Alvechurch off side trap and breaking free with a very nice cool finish from the SG forward. 2-3.
These are precisely the sort of the tight, evenly-fought games we joined the JPL for and we would like to wish South Gloucs the best of luck for the remainder of the season.
