Match Report

Evesham take the bragging rights in local derby!

Evesham took the points in a keenly contested local derby at the Vale.

Early exchanges between the teams were pretty even, with chances falling to both sides.  The visitors broke the deadlock with a long ball straight down the middle from the keeper.  Route one and finished well, 0-1.   Evesham equalised almost immediately with debutant Sam striking a great goal, low to the keepers LHS.  Fast and furious in the first quarter, but no further goals.

Second quarter was end to end, however Evesham were exerting more pressure going forward, and the Worcester keeper made some excellent saves. Evesham managed to convert 2 chances in the half to make it 3-1, however Worcester were still very much in the game (Cian and Archie playing well in midfield), and had a number of chances to score themselves (but it was not to be).

Second half, and chances were going begging at both ends.  Evesham breaking from midfield and the  Worcester defencive unit standing firm.  Following a disallowed goal for offside for Worcester, Evesham extended their lead, with Ben breaking through the defence. Worcester got one back following a strong spell of pressure to make it 4-2 at the end of the period, very much still in the game and all to play for.

Final quarter, and the attacking interplay from Evesham was starting to come together, as Worcester appeared to tire.  Josh in the Worcester goal made a string of saves, however the waves of attacks  continued to come from Evesham with Ben and Charlie G converting chances to make it 6-2 and Evesham finally had some breathing space.   Credit to Worcester who were not finished and made it 6-3, before 2 more goals from Evesham (including an excellent long range shot from Max) made it 8-3 at the final whistle.

A well contested game, played at pace with plenty of goalmouth action at both ends.   If it is anything like this, the return fixture should be an entertaining affair.

Good luck to Worcester City for the remainder of the season.
