Match Report

Stoke RTC vs Solihull Academy

A chilly morning start for both teams. A minutes silence was held impeccably by both sets of players due to Solihull not having a game last week. We all thank our fallen armed force members as their tomorrow was sacrificed for our today.

The game started very openly and Stoke gained the lead insdie the first minute, a really fast start from Stoke.

The lead was doubled 5 minutes before the end of the first quarter after some lovely flowing football from Stoke was rewarded by the finish.

5 changes for Stoke at the break made for a slow start in the second quarter but around the 8 minute mark Stoke pressed high forcing the mistake and being rewarded by the 3 goal of the morning.

A topsy turnvy quarter where Stoke kept the ball nicely but never looked to menacing going forward.

Solihull was reduced to 10 men after their number 18 was sent off due to violent conduct off the ball whilst waiting for the corner to be taken. Once the corner had been taken Stoke countered to devastating affect, scoring the 4th goal of the morning from a perfectly executed counter.

A rush of blood to the head of the Stoke defender with a silly tackle on the halfway line resulted in his second yellow card, followed by the red card, evening the game back to 10 a side, gave Solihull a chance to potentially get back into the game.

Stoke was rewarded again in the final minutes of the quarter, moving the ball round really well with the man advantage tiring Solihull out, a finely struck volley lobbed the goalkeeper from outside the box to increase Stokes lead going into the final break.

Solihull started the 4th quarter really brightly looking to get themselves on the ball, trying to press and hurry the Stoke players. A mad 5 minutes for Stoke where they couldn't get their foot on the ball and control the game.

Ultimately Stoke ran out 5-0 winners on the day, controlling the majority of the match and being clinical in front of goal. Good luck to Solihull for the rest of the season, look forward to the return match.
