Match Report

Rushden & Diamonds U14's Vs Coventry City Sky Blues U14's

On a damp morning we welcomed Chole and her team to the Malcolm Arnold Academy for our JPL One League Game.

Quarter 1

Rushden started on the front foot and created a couple of early chances which were very well saved by the Coventry keeper, Pharrell Blyde then produced a stunning finish from 25 yards which this time gave the goal keeper no chance,

For the remainder of the quarter  both teams cancelled each other out with both defenses playing very well and compact.

Rushden & Diamonds 1 Coventry City 0

Quarter 2

Coventry came out much quicker and from the off were looking to get in round the back of the Rushden defense, the long ball was causing Rushden problems in tricky conditions and twice Alex Gomes in goal had to pull off timely saves to keep Rushden ahead.

Rushden  finally got back into the game towards the end of the quarter and a fantastic strike from Josh Kislby crashed against the bar, a couple more chances came Rushdens way but poor finishing kept the game still very tight.

Rushden & Diamonds 1 Coventry City 0

Quarter 3

Without doubt this was Coventrys best quarter and they had alot of pressure without causing any clear cut chances, the pressure did however pay off when a poor clearance gave Coventry player Kaidon Hand-wills the opportunity to draw level and he took his chance very well.

Rushden had to dig in deep in this quarter and fine leadership from skipper Cian Shea at the back spread through the team and kept the score level.

Rushden & Diamonds 1 Coventry City 1

Quarter 4

Rushden this season have always finished games strongly and today was no exception, after a poor 3rd quarter the Rushden boys finally clicked into gear and took control of this quarter with much better pressing and use of the ball in posession, Pharrell Blyde got his 2nd goal on the 70th minute a neat finish first time into the keepers bottom corner, Josh kilsby added a 3rd in the 77th  minute with a delightful free kick which was placed into the keepers top right hand corner, Corey Williams completed the scoring getting his 20th goal of the season and the final 4th goal of the game.

That was a tough game today against a hugely improved Coventry side, it was the first game this season where we have had quite a lot of boys just having a bad day, but to there credit they made up for that with their effort and played through the bad spell and found a way to turn things around into a positive outcome.

Rushden & Diamonds 4 Coventry City 1

Well done to Chloe and her team who gave us a great game, on another day and with out the reaction we showed today the outcome could have been very different.
