Match Report

Gornal Athletic V Kidderminster Harriers

A clash of unbeaten Kidderminster versus in form Gornal who had secured seven victories from their last eight fixtures this morning at Garden Walk.

An intriging contest unfolded with two contrastong styles matching up on a pitch that was improving from the rigours of the British winter.

Kiddrminster maintained possession well and move the ball via three centres halves, pushing wing backs high looking to create space or hit diagonal passes in behind. Gornal are compact and organised and hold shape well. This was the pattern for the fixture. Kidderminster went 1-0 up in unfortunate circumstances with a mix up between CH and GK allowing the Kidderminster forward to nip in and tuck the ball home after twelve minutes. Gornal regrouped and responded well, especially when Joseph picked up a through ball, rounded the Kiddy GK but sadly seeing his attempt from a tight angle dropping the wrong side of the unguarded net.

Kidderminster prodded and probed but couldn;t break down the Gornal barriers to create anything purposeful. Gornal won the ball back well but were wastful with possession earnt, making dubious decisions and subsequent passes going not to intended targets, therefore struggling to build momentum. 1-0 half time.

Into second period and Gornal pressed Kidderminster in higher area's enjoying success winning possession and forcing errors. Yet,balls in the final third were not to the desrired quality, wrong choices were made as a group. Gornal came close as the game wore on, looking menacing from set pieces , one of note finger tipped saved from a Jim free kick.

As the game went into its latter staged Kidderminster managed the time/match well. Gornal pushed players higher leaving them more exposed at the back, Kiddy hitting the post. No more further scoring, a tight and balanced affair. Kidderminster will be pleased with the points, Gornal shall feel they deserved something from the match. Good spirit and endevour from both sides who have plenty of positives each going forward to work with. 1-0
