AFC Bournemouth v QPR U16 Girls
We entertained QPR at the impressive Canford School, in the next instalment of the Junior Premier League fixtures.
Both sides looked to maintain a good level of possession from the outset, creating a number of early chances. On 11min a misplaced back pass, allowed QPR striker to latch onto the ball and finish 0-1. Trying to pull a goal back, opportunities came to Hannah, Faith and Mia but some good goalkeeping and defending kept us out. On 21min Sophie A played a neat pass into midfield to Elle who slipped a ball through to the onrushing Lucy who finished well, following in after an initial save from the GK.
Despite then maintaining a good level of possession, again some unforced errors led to us conceding two in quick succession. The first one was a speculative shot from the edge of the box, that spiralled up via a deflection, before somehow finding the net – then a well delivered ball across the face of goal, led to not picking up the opposite wide player who coolly tapped in the net from close range.
Pleasingly, one minute later we managed to draw one back, again a good through ball from Elle found Lucy who finished calmly for her brace! 2-3 at half time.
Moving into the second half, a change in formation to try and create more forward passing opportunities came to fruition; as on 44min Kitty hit a well driven shot from outside of the box into the roof of the net 3-3. The change in formation allowed us to pen our opponents in their half for long periods, but just could not convert. As the half progressed, QPR countered down the right hand side and a well placed shot was expertly tipped round the post by Mollie high to her right! In the closing stages we dominated the ball, and despite chances for Kitty, Hannah, Mia – we just could not get the winning goal.
